The TD6 is the Range Rover most owners quietly wish they had bought. The 3.0L turbo diesel makes 440 lb-ft, tows without complaint, and still returns 29 highway — the supercharged gas V6 in the same truck does about 23. Diesel holds more energy per gallon, so you cover more ground on every fill. These engines are also built to run: high compression, heavy internals, low working rpm. A well-maintained diesel going well past 400,000 miles is normal, which puts 131,000 closer to the middle of this truck’s life than the end. Air suspension raises it for a rough road and drops it for the autobahn. Terrain Response 2 does the thinking off-road.
